Chicago Bears player Gaines Adams dies

Gaines Adams, a defensive end for the Chicago Bears, died today in his hometown of Greenwood, S.C., the team announced. He was 26.

“We are stunned and saddened by the news of Gaines’ passing,” the Bears said in a statement. “Our prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”

Adams was a star player at Clemson and was selected as the fourth pick in the 2007 NFL draft by Tampa Bay. He was traded to Chicago in October.
