What did L.A. designer Allen Schwartz think of the Golden Globes styles? “There was a tremendous amount of glamour. The stars really went for it,” says Schwartz, owner of A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz, the line that takes design cues from what celebs wear on the red carpet.

I chatted with Schwartz during the red carpet pre-show about which looks he loved and what trends will best translate into his line.

Long Gowns: “The trend in dresses is definitely long gowns,” says Schwartz, who usually spies more cocktail dresses at Globes, but was pleasantly surprised to see all the length, especially on Eva Mendes’ sweeping Dior confection — his favorite star of the night. Schwartz plans to incorporate long dresses into his line, saying that they make great bridesmaid or second wedding dresses.

A neutral palette: The Moet at the dinner tables wasn’t the only champagne flowing last night. Most dresses appeared in hues of ivory, nude, soft gray, gold and champagne. Schwartz loved the neutral color of Drew Barrymore’s soft gray Dior dress and Kristin Scott Thomas’ taupe Lanvin, because they are easy and wearable colors for most women.

One shoulder: “Asymmetrical is more important than ever,” Schwartz says. He especially liked Maggie Gyllenhaal’s leopard-print Lanvin dress, but would reinterpret it sans print. “The one-shoulder looks good on everybody and is great for the décolleté.”

Who doesn’t like that?
