Zooey channels Audrey Hepburn for Oliver Peoples -- and we like it

I know the Oliver Peoples collaboration with actress/starlet/chanteuse Zooey Deschanel is nothing new (our compatriot Max first mentioned the retro-inspired sunglasses in a February shopping page item), but, last week, after a horrible, no-good Thursday at work, I arrived home to find her on my porch peering at me coyly over the top of her signature shades and things suddenly weren’t so bad.

Well, it wasn’t her exactly, but her visage on a glossy mailer from the Peoples people that was in the day’s mail. She’s all over the look book too -- along with a fellow named Matt Costa who models the men’s looks and appears alongside her in a short film by Autumn de Wilde at the company’s website titled ‘Catch a Tuesday.’

In the still photos and film, Zooey seems to be full-on channeling Audrey Hepburn (who helped immortalize Ray-Ban Wayfarers in the pop culture canon after sporting them in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’), from the long black gloves, little black dress and swan neck we see at the beginning to the scarf-wrapped head, beige trench coat and white mod-frame shades she dons later.

I could prattle on about the cool ‘kissing lips’ logo that appears only when the lenses fog, or about how a portion of the $415 price tag from website pre-orders will go to the Jenesse Center domestic violence intervention program in Los Angeles.

But in reality, I just really liked the stylish ad campaign. And while I can’t vouch for the sunglasses themselves, the photos sure improved my outlook tremendously.
