Cate Adair, the costume designer responsible for dolling up the cast of ‘Desperate Houswives,’ is going to be dressing for a different kind of success on Saturday, with plans to bring her style savvy from Wisteria Lane to Long Beach for a ‘Style Celebration’ fundraiser.

Partnering with Chamilia, a jewelry company that specializes in fashion-forward fine beaded pieces you can make yourself, Adair will give tips on building customizable bracelets, necklaces and earrings, with 10% of each sale from the event going to Be the Match, an organization that helps people who need bone marrow transpants find matches. Chamilia has created a new collection exclusively for the nonprofit, integrating the azure blue and peridot green of the organization’s logo into the designs.

In 1987, the Be the Match Registry was formed to organize a list for folks keen to donate bone marrow to patients in need -- 70% of those who need a transplant don’t have a family member who is a good match and so need to search for other potential donors, the organization says. Facilitating almost 40,000 transplants since its inception, the program is currently responsible for approximately 4,800 transplants each year.

This is the third event Adair and Chamilia have done for the cause since October, and three more events are planned in December -- one in Texas and two in Florida. Adair’s enthusiasm for the cause is catching. “Anytime I can give back, especially for a cause as valuable as Be the Match, I feel like it’s something I want to do … it’s paying forward a great thing.” she says.

The “Style Celebration” is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, at Bungalow Bay, 6457 E. Pacific Coast Highway, Long Beach. Adair will be in attendance until 2 p.m., mingling, offering style advice and hosting a Q&A. One lucky winner will receive a personal style session with the designer.
