Watching your weight? Be sure to watch your face too

Dr. Jessica Wu’s new book, ‘Feed Your Face,’ is out Tuesday, and after reading Melissa Magsaysay’s post here about it recently, I can’t wait to read it. Finally, a book that tells you what you CAN eat, not what you CAN’T.

It seems like a lot of the tips are pretty common-sense: cut down on sugar, eat lots of veggies. But not in a restrictive, boring, do-it-because-it’s-good-for-you way. Wu actually recommends pizza! When it’s done right -- cut down on cheese, order whole wheat crust and pile on the tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables -- it’s a feast for your skin as well as your tastebuds.

Writer Alene Dawson also tapped some of this common-sense advice when she asked Wu, fellow dermatologists Howard Murad and David Colbert, and dietitian Linda Illingworth to look into the impact weight loss diets can have on your skin. What she found was that dieting can be a real pitfall for your complexion. When you choose a weight-loss regimen, be mindful of how it will affect ALL your looks, not just your figure.
