Fashion News: Prince Charles gets stylish, Tavi gets animated

The inaugural London men’s fashion week received a royal welcome by the Prince of Wales himself, reports the Independent, at a June 14 reception hosted by the heir to the throne at St. James’ Palace and attended by fashion designers like Tom Ford, Vivienne Westwood, Nicole Farhi and Philip Green. The new men’s fashion week, which joins Milan and Paris on the international circuit, will send some 50 labels down the runway over a three-day period.

And, in case you were wondering, Prince Charles was turned out in a ‘lightweight navy double-breasted jacket, striped shirt, immaculately folded pocket square and polished brogues.’ [Independent]


This weekend’s Los Angeles Film Festival serves up at least one work with a fashion connection -- the L.A. debut of ‘Cadaver,’ starring an animated version of celebrated tween fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson singing the music of Neil Young. Jonah Ansell, the film’s writer/director, says Christopher Lloyd and Kathy Bates also appear in the work, which Ansell tells us is in the process of being developed into a full-blown animated musical (‘think ‘Little Mermaid’ meets ‘Les Miserables,’ ‘ he writes). The film screens Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at L.A. Live and again Sunday. Tickets:

A constellation of stars turned out for the June 12 Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, including Meryl Streep, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christina Applegate, Ed O’Neill and Diahann Carroll. Bonnie Hammer, chairman of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and Cable Studios was honored with the’ Lucy,’ and Viola Davis took home the ‘Crystal.’ [Society News L.A.]

Bill Gaytten presented his final Dior collection in Paris on June 24, with Raf Simons slated to publicly take the reins at the July couture shows. Citing British Vogue, New York magazine reports that Gaytten will be focusing on the John Galliano label where he has been at the helm since Galliano’s ouster in 2011. [New York]

The details behind -- and photos of -- the dress Camila Alves wore for her wedding to Matthew McConaughey are starting to make the rounds. According to People magazine, the designer of the beaded lace gown was a Brazilian by the name of Ducarmo Castelo Branco. The name may not be familiar to us, but it certainly was to Alves; the 78-year-old Branco is a longtime family friend. [People]
