Oscars ceremony was one of the shortest in recent times

The running time of the 83rd Academy Awards show isn’t official yet, but it was about 3 hours and 15 minutes. That’s one of the shortest in recent years. See the list below of other Oscarcasts since 1980.

What’s curious about looking back at the running time of old Oscar shows is how (relatively) short they were prior to 1980. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, many shows ran between two and three hours. They contained very few entertainment segments. The focus was on doling out one award after another … after another … .
