IRAQ: State Department reminds Americans to stay away

The State Department is just out with its annual plea to Americans to stay away from Iraq.

The warning, issued by the U.S. Embassy in neighboring Kuwait, is blunt: ‘’Despite recent improvements in the security environment, Iraq remains dangerous, volatile and unpredictable. ...

‘Remnants of the former Baathist regime, transnational terrorists, criminal elements and numerous insurgent groups remain active throughout Iraq.’

The heavily-guarded Green Zone in Baghdad, where the U.S. Embassy is located, is not immune to attacks. ‘Such attacks can occur at any time.’’
