Breast milk on the menu? I’ll just have a salad*

So, apparently, a Swiss chef wants to add breast milk to his restaurant’s offerings, promising to whip up local specialties such as stews and soups using at least 75% breast milk.
‘We have all been raised on it. Why should we not include it into our diet?’ Hans Locher asks in a story in London’s Telegraph.
The New York Daily News has reported that Swiss officials got involved and put a damper on things, as officials tend to do.
Regardless of what happens with the Swiss proprietor’s plan (real or no), this would be a fine opportunity to discuss breast-feeding rates, the nutritional benefits of breast milk for infants, and even the latest Peta ad.
But, really, all I have to add is: ‘Ew.’

*Update: Peta, never shy about stirring the pot to make a point, jumped into the fray Wednesday with a letter to Ben and Jerry’s, calling on the ice cream company to swap human mother’s milk for the bovine kind in its products.
‘We explained that using cow’s milk for their ice cream is a hazard to consumers’ health,’ Peta explained on its website. ‘Even Dr. Spock spoke out against feeding cow’s milk to children, saying it may play a role in the onset of anemia, allergies, and juvenile diabetes and, in the long term, can set kids up for a lifetime of obesity and heart disease (America’s number one cause of death).’
Ben and Jerry’s, obviously, said it won’t be changing its recipe in that way. But we have to wonder... if they did, what catchy name would they come up with for such a reformulated ice cream?
