Growth factor may treat glaucoma

Experimental drops containing the hormone nerve growth factor can reverse some of the problems associated with glaucoma, improving vision, Italian researchers reported today.

The Associated Press reported that the drops have been tested only in three elderly patients, but that all showed improvement after three months of treatment. The improvement persisted for three months after treatment was halted.

The researchers are now planning trials in more patients.
