In Poway, a city 22 miles northeast of San Diego in San Diego County, the Pomerado Hospital and convalescent homes on Monte Vista Road were being evacuated about 9 a.m. because of the Witch Creek fire, said Susan Knauss, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. ‘There are a bunch of [convalescent homes] over there,’ she said. ‘We’re just trying to monitor everything. As you can imagine, with eight fires burning it’s hectic.’
