Authorities announced several road closures early this morning, as firefighters scrambled to contain the rapidly spreading fire, making driving to and from Irvine difficult.

Drivers commuting to Irvine from the Inland Empire were forced to find alternative routes when officials closed the 241 toll road where it connects with the 91 Freeway in Weir Canyon. The 133 Freeway also was closed to northbound traffic in Irvine at Interstate 5. The highway is normally used by drivers commuting to the Inland Empire via the 241.

Santiago Canyon Road was closed between the 261 and 241 toll roads at Ridgeline Road. South of that, Portola Parkway was closed between Culver Drive and Sand Canyon Avenue. Northbound Irvine Boulevard was shut down in the general area between the 133 and the 261 toll road.

Jamboree Road between Portola Parkway in Irvine and Chapman Avenue, near Orange, also was shut down.
