Hulu, the online video site owned by NBC Universal and News Corp., continues its hot streak, attracting a record 41.6 million unique viewers in March. That was good enough to make it the fourth-most popular video site behind Google’s YouTube, Fox’s MySpace and Yahoo, according to comScore Video Metrix.
YouTube is still far and away the leader, with almost 100 million viewers, while MySpace had 47.4 million viewers and Yahoo had 42.5 million. CBS Interactive rounded out the top five with 35.4 million unique users. Hulu accounted for 2.6% of all videos viewed online and about 5% of minutes spent watching online video.
Hulu’s growth is impressive, considering that it launched just over a year ago amid a lot of doubt about whether it would succeed against YouTube and other video content sites. Now Disney is close to a deal to join and the site has become so popular that it is becoming a source of tension among those in the industry worried about Hulu siphoning away viewers from television.
