William M. Griswold, former chief curator of the J. Paul Getty Museum and current director of the Morgan Library and Museum in New York, has been awarded the Chevalier des Arts et Lettres, one of France’s highest civilian honors.

Griswold became acting director of the Getty museum in 2004 amid turmoil surrounding the former head of the Getty Trust, Barry Munitz. Griswold left the Getty in 2005 to become director and president of the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and was hired by the Morgan Library last year.
