Few musicians are as confident at the podium as Lorin Maazel, whose conducting career spans 70 years and most major orchestras. After seven years on the podium for the New York Philharmonic and with his 80th birthday around the corner, Maazel is a free agent but as busy as ever.

This weekend and next, he leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic through performances of Sibelius, Richard Strauss and Bruckner.
