Dining in the dark during Earth Hour

It’s Saturday night. Maybe you’re about to tuck into a hefty hunk of cow at Lawry’s or you’re working on your second (or third or fourth) mojito at Ciudad, and the lights suddenly go out. No, it’s not a catastrophic failure of L.A.’s power grid, it’s part of Earth Hour, a nationwide social experiment in which businesses and individuals all over the country will turn off their lights for one hour on Saturday at 8:30 pm.

It’s all in the name of making ‘a global statement of concern about climate change and to demonstrate commitment to finding solutions.’ Some people might prefer to do that by supporting scientific research into climate change, by becoming active about issues of environmental justice or by making their way of life more sustainable, but as publicity stunts go, at least this one is well-meaning.

From Beverly Hills to Mission Hills, from burrito stands to brasseries, feel free to ‘demonstrate your commitment’ by eating at one of the nearly 40 participating local restaurants. Full list after the jump.
