When it comes to cravings, I usually veer on the side of salty -- fries, chips, you name it. As of late though, my sweet tooth has really kicked in. I’ve been pressing my nose up against the windows of bakeries and chocolate stores all over the city -- literally and, well, figuratively -- as in online. Here are a couple worthy mentions:
Bittersweet Bars from Poco Dolce: The Olive Oil with Sea Salt and the Peanut Butter are top picks for moviegoing or page-turner nibbles. Handmade in small batches by a six-person team in San Francisco, Poco Dolce’s bars are $24 for a pack of four and are available online and at various shops around L.A. including Joan’s on Third and The Cheese Store of Silverlake.
Coconut Cloud Cookies from Tamalpais Star Roth-McCormick’s Bunches & Bunches Ltd.: These light, airy, crumbly yet moist cookies may have an angelic appeal but are dangerous! Resembling clouds, they are a blend of crispy meringue and chewy macaroon, containing just the right amount of coconut, sold at Dean & Deluca and Caffe Luxxe locations.
