A.J. Ellis must have done something. Investigators are on the case. There has to be some logical explanation for the cruel and inhuman conduct Joe Torre inflicted upon Ellis on Saturday.

Ellis is the Dodgers’ backup catcher behind Russell Martin, a gamer who likes to play. Last season, Martin played in 143 games, starting at catcher in 137. So Ellis doesn’t figure to get many starts, but Saturday his name was in the lineup card.

To catch knuckleballer Charlie Haeger. And face two-time Cy Young-winner Tim Lincecum.

Way to go kid, now go out there and try to hold it down to seven passed balls and not get punched out four times.
