Andre Ethier, All-Star.

Wait, it’s better than that.

Andre Ethier, All-Star starter.

Now that’s been a rarity in the land of the Boys in Blue. When the final results of the fan voting were announced Sunday, Either was voted in as a starter.

The last Dodger to be named a starting outfielder to the All-Star team was Darryl Strawberry in 1991. And he was injured that year an unable to start.

In the last 12 years, only Jeff Kent (2005) and Russell Martin (2007) were winners of the fan voting as a starter. Mike Piazza was a starter for four consecutive seasons prior to that, beginning in 1994.

Closer Jonathan Broxton was one of eight pitchers who earned their way onto the All-Star team from the ballot from players. This will be Broxton’s second consecutive All-Star Game.

Ethier was on a triple-crown pace before fracturing his pinkie May 15. He is currently batting .321 with 13 home runs and 48 RBI.

Broxton has 16 saves in 18 opportunities, with a 2.08 ERA.
