Hold the presses: Dodgers sign reliever Juan Rincon

Words are not supposed to fail you in this line of work, however …

The Dodgers have signed right-handed reliever Juan Rincon to a minor-league contract without a non-roster invite.

Once Rincon was, well, pretty decent. Like back in 2006. A hard thrower with control issues, he had an ERA over 5.00 in each of his next three seasons.

Last year he was with the Rockies but was a mess even with their triple-A team (4-4, 7.88 ERA in 47 games). He ended up pitching two innings with the Rockies, allowing a run.

Clearly, the Dodgers are not expecting much from the 32-year-old Venezuelan. The ultimate take-a-flier? Maybe he can help Ronald Belisario with his annual visa issues.

Otherwise, I have nothing …
