The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF 2009) at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center was not the only venue to show the latest in contemporary design in New York City this week. More than 400 places -- design stores, galleries, showrooms, hotels and restaurants -- showcased new design throughout the city’s neighborhoods. Here’s a peak at some of the hot new furnishings I saw around town.

Bright colors of polymer cord are woven directly on a tubular steel frame in designer Patricia Urquiola’s playful Tropicalia Collection’s Cocoon Swing.
