The Look for Less: Beautiful bottles for spenders and scrimpers

They don’t hold anything. They don’t even open. Yet decorative bottles with bejeweled stoppers like these have found favor as display shelf and dresser-top adornments. And, obviously, on windowsills. One of these groupings contains bottles that are the real deal: handmade from vintage elements and priced from $130 each. The other grouping is a real steal, with bottles that run from $14.95 to $39.95 each. Find out which is which after the jump.

These pieces are made from vintage bottles and jars and are topped with crosses composed of salvaged chandelier crystals and semi-precious stones. They have been a top seller at Dan Marty Design in West Hollywood, where they are also available in clear and amber glass. Each one is unique and handmade by the same artist. They run from $130 to $475 apiece.

Substituting bright colors for ye olde charm, Pier 1 Imports’ Jewel Top Bottles are crowned with beads and faceted glass. They are mass produced and priced accordingly, from $14.95 to $39.95.
