Filmmaker Faythe Levine traveled to 15 cities across America to interview 80 artists fueling the handmade crafts movement. The result, Levine’s documentary ‘Handmade Nation,’ celebrates the current craft explosion, as evidenced by the popularity of websites such as Etsy and craft fairs such as Renegade and Felt Club. Interviews with paper and glass artists, a feminist art collective, a ‘yarn-based graffiti crew’ and others demonstrate how do-it-yourself is not just a trend but a way of life. The L.A. premiere, sponsored by Reform School and Home Ec, will screen Aug. 15 and 16 at the Silent Movie Theatre. A free mini craft fair with demonstrations will be held between the two Saturday screenings. For tickets, click here.
