James Perse opens Malibu perch for new furniture

A South Seas spa lounge? A Hamptons hideaway? Neither. This inviting exterior is the deck of fashion minimalist James Perse’s new store at the Malibu Lumber Yard, the first of the designer’s retail locations to sell his new furniture line. The 15 pieces include the teak Carbon chaise, shown here, $2,600 including cushions. The collection is low, lean and architectural. Even the slip-covered sofas and easy chairs exude high-rolling surf-dude dash.

Perse, who is beloved by Angelenos for the lived-in look of his faded T-shirts, conceived the beach-house look of the store, which was built by the architecture firm Marmol Radziner. Abandon all thoughts of thrift and take a look inside and see more furniture after the jump.

Above: The Craftsman bed from Perse’s furniture collection is made from matte white-lacquered ash. It’s $4,500 for a queen size. A king duvet cover, $500, is brushed cotton on one side and reverses to T-shirt-soft brushed jersey. The striped shams and blankets are cashmere and run from $275 to $1,660.

Below left: The solid teak framed Colony chair is available with cushions in outdoor Sunbrella fabric or outdoor Belgian linen, from $2,200. Below right: The espresso-stained ash Concord desk, $4,800, is paired with the Cross Creek director’s chair made from solid teak. It comes with Sunbrella or outdoor Belgian linen upholstery and costs $1,400.
