We admit it: We messed up. We intended to alert you to the sample sale last Sunday at Tortoise General Store, a great importer of Japanese design in Venice. But we simply didn’t get the post up.

The usual crowd never showed. What this means for you: a second chance. The store will stage another sample sale this Saturday, Oct. 17. It starts at noon and ends at 6:30 p.m. -- earlier if everything sells.

The sale consists solely of sample pieces from the owner’s buying trips to Japan. Think stationery, specialty plates and other housewares. The regular store merchandise will not be marked down -- just samples arranged in the back of the store. The sale is cash only, so stop at the ATM before heading to 1208 Abbot Kinney Blvd.
