A tow-truck driver helping a stalled vehicle was struck and killed by a southbound Amtrak train Saturday afternoon in Encinitas in northern San Diego County, the county Sheriff’s Department said.

The stalled vehicle was just west of the railroad tracks, and the tow-truck driver could not move quickly enough to avoid the train, officials said. The driver’s name was not released.
