Earthquake: 3.7 quake strikes near Petrolia

A shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported Wednesday morning six miles from Petrolia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:02 a.m. PST at a depth of 11.8 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 21 miles from Rio Dell, 22 miles from Ferndale, 37 miles from Eureka and 196 miles from Sacramento.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
