A West Covina youth soccer coach has been arrested and booked on suspicion of texting inappropriate messages to an 11-year-old girl on his team.

Albert Gutierrez, 45, was arrested Wednesday and is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 13 on a charge of communicating with a minor with intent to commit certain sexual acts, according to a police report.

Gutierrez allegedly texted the girl several times in December. The girl informed her mother, who contacted Gutierrez. Gutierrez apologized and said he would stop contacting the girl.

Later, the girl’s mother called Covina police, who arrested Gutierrez at his home, according to the report.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Covina police detectives at (626) 384-5615 or (626) 384-5808.
