Investigation continues into shooting death of O.C. doctor

Newport Beach police detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting death of a local physician Monday afternoon near Hoag Hospital.

In a press release late Monday, police officials said the incident appeared to be isolated and did not represent a continuing threat to public safety.


Officers were called to Hoag Health Center – Newport Beach, at 520 Superior Ave., about 2:45 p.m. on a report of a shooting. The building houses numerous medical offices and clinics.

On the building’s second floor, they found a doctor with several gunshot wounds to his torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers detained and arrested a suspect in the shooting.

Police are withholding the name of both the suspect and the victim in the case.
