City Councilman Eric Garcetti will begin airing his first television ad in the Los Angeles mayoral race Friday night, according to a Democratic media consultant who is not working for any of the candidates.
Garcetti is expected to spend about $500,000 over the next nine days, roughly on par with what his main rival in the race, Wendy Greuel, is spending on advertising, according to the source.

Greuel was the first candidate to go on the air, on Jan. 29, with a biographic spot that highlighted her work as the city’s controller but raised questions about the validity of her claim that she had found $160 million in waste, fraud and abuse at City Hill.
The script of Garcetti’s ad was unavailable Friday morning, but it is expected to be biographic and introductory in nature.
