Legendary Times columnist Jack Smith, who died in 1996, wrote on all manner of things animal, from poodles to grackles -- or at least what he said were grackles. Larry Harnisch’s blog on the history of L.A. -- the Daily Mirror -- is pleased to introduce a new generation of readers to Jack Smith’s adventures with an Airedale named Fleetwood Pugsley, which began in 1971 when Jack acquired a puppy while his wife, Denny, was out of town.

He begins: ‘It seems incredible than an immature dog could have altered our environment so much in 10 days.’

Here from 1971 is ‘New Dog Up to Old Tricks’ and ‘Special Delivery Airedale Letters.’
