As promised, Joe Biden’s grandchildren unveiled the name of his new German Shepherd puppy when the family gathered on Christmas morning.

The puppy’s brand-new name? Champ, according to Biden’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander. Politico reports:

The name has sentimental significance for Biden, whose dad always told him growing up, ‘Get up champ,’ whenever he was having a tough time. Biden often mentioned it in his campaign speeches, where he would recall his father saying ‘Any time you get knocked down, champ — get up!’

As we told you last week, the Bidens plan to adopt a second dog (likely a Golden Retriever) after the inauguration. Stay tuned!
