‘Sneaker celeb’ DJ AM’s kicks to be auctioned for charity

Adam Goldstein, a.k.a DJ AM, who died of a drug overdose in August, was one of the top ‘sneaker celebs’ in the world, with a collection of hundreds of pairs of rare and unusual shoes.
Starting Sunday, that collection will be auctioned on EBay, with proceeds to benefit the DJ AM Memorial Fund, supporting projects addressing addiction and recovery.

So serious was the celebrity deejay’s sneaker rep that he landed a shoe-related cameo in HBO’s ‘Entourage’ and was in a Nike ad campaign, above, that was filmed on the courts at Westminster High and also featured Kobe Bryant and Omar Epps.

Goldstein told MTV in 2006 that he ‘got real obsessed with sneakers’ when he was in second grade shopping with his grandma. He extols the virtues of having two of any style, keeping a pair to wear and another ‘on ice,’ never laced up, like someone would save a comic book without reading it.

In the video at the MTV link, DJ AM acts like a kid in a candy store -- except the candy store looks like a shoe store.

And it was all in his house.

New DJ AM shoes will be added to the auction offerings nightly through the first week of December, with 100% of proceeds going to the memorial fund.
