Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart‘s movie “Rabbit Hole,” which has hopped around the festival circuit starting with a premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and including AFI Fest in L.A., had its New York premiere Thursday night.

Eckhart and Kidman portray a husband and wife whose lives are changed when their son is killed in a freak car accident. Kidman told People on Thursday that she’d “begged” Eckhart to play opposite her -- perhaps because of his intense approach to acting.

“The first time I met Nicole I went up to her and I said, ‘I can do anything to you. I can touch you, I can not talk to you, I can be rude to you, I can want to have sex with you,’” he told Access Hollywood on the red carpet. “Because that’s our relationship and I give myself permission to do that and I give you permission to do that with me.”

Sandra Oh, who hit the red carpet along with co-stars Jon Tenney of “The Closer” fame and “Guiding Light” veteran Tammy Blanchard, described Eckhart to People as “a very, very complex, deep, deep, deep lovely man.”

Gee, ya think?

Also spotted: the dashing Jon Hamm with Jennifer Westfeldt, Parker Posey, Bob Balaban, “Royal Pains” actress Jill Flint and of course Keith Urban, Kidman’s husband. An after-party was held at the Oak Room. Click the pic of Hamm, above right, for more photos from the red carpet.

“Rabbit Hole” is based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Lindsay-Abaire; “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon won a 2006 Tony Award for her Broadway portrayal of the role Kidman has in the film.

The movie opens in limited release in the U.S. on Dec. 17.
