Cory Monteith plays All-American jock Finn Hudson on ‘Glee,’ but his own teen years were spent far from the right side of the tracks.

‘I’m lucky on so many counts –- I’m lucky to be alive,’ the actor said in a recent interview in which he confessed to binge drinking and drug use as early as age 13.

Seven years old when his parents divorced, Monteith was skipping class in British Columbia to get high -- a habit that escalated and required intervention from his friends and family.

Cory went off to rehab at 19 but it didn’t take. The actor continued to drink and abuse drugs.

‘I stole a significant amount of money from a family member,’ he told Parade. ‘I knew I was going to get caught, but I was so desperate I didn’t care.’

That family member threatened to press charges if Monteith didn’t get his act together.

‘I was done fighting myself. I finally said, ‘I’m gonna start looking at my life and figure out why I’m doing this,’ ‘ he said.
