Pia Toscano of ‘American Idol’ fame has signed with Interscope Records and will release her first single, ‘This Time,’ online on Tuesday, the company announced Wednesday.
Toscano, who earned a lot of judges’ praise and quite a fan following before being eliminated in ninth place from Season 10, will be performing the tune on the American Idols Live! 2011 Tour, which kicks off Wednesday in Salt Lake City and makes a Southern California stop in Ontario on July 16.
Interscope, of course, is the label of one Jimmy Iovine, who mentored the most recent crop of ‘Idol’ finalists. ‘I’m looking forward to working with him and everyone at Interscope Records and 19 Recordings,’ Toscano said in a statement. ‘This is a dream come true.’
‘This Time’ was written by Esther Dean, who also penned ‘Rude Boy,’ ‘S&M’ and ‘What’s My Name’ for Rihanna.
Toscano’s debut album — ‘big, diva-sounding record,’ she told the Hollywood Reporter — is expected by the end of the year.
