Whitney Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, father of their child, Bobbi Kristina, was reportedly ‘beside himself’ Saturday after hearing that his ex-wife had died.

‘He was sobbing, and by the end of the call, I was sobbing, too,’ a family member told People after Brown called with the news. ‘He’s beside himself right now.’

Brown was in Memphis for a New Edition concert, in which he was still planning to perform, despite being ‘in and out of crying fits,’ according to TMZ.

On the eve of the Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy also had a statement on Houston’s death.

‘Six-time Grammy winner Whitney Houston was one of the world’s greatest pop singers of all time who leaves behind a robust musical soundtrack spanning the past three decades. Her powerful voice graced many memorable and award-winning songs. A light has been dimmed in our music community today, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, fans and all who have been touched by her beautiful voice.’
