We agree with today’s LATimes neighborhood profile of La Canada Flintridge: with hiking, biking, stunning parks and gardens, top-flight schools and small-town feel fairly close to downtown LA, La Canada Flintridge is a beautiful place to live. Hey, anytime they’re publishing coffee-table books about a garden in your town (‘Descanso,’ at right, photographed by Warren Marr), you’re living in a great place.

But we have to point out: all those wonderful things were true seven years ago, when the median price of a home sold in La Canada Flintridge (zip code 91011) was $588,000. This year it is $1.34 million. That’s a rise of 228% in seven years. Did the city become 228% more beautiful? The schools 228% better?
