We were happy to see the L.A. Times editorial page weigh in this morning on the decision by the Southern California MLS to limit disclosure of days-on-the-market information, depriving home buyers of important information about the housing market.

The Times: ‘... this is clearly a change that serves nervous home sellers and their agents — the only parties who would be concerned that apparently lengthy days-on-market periods might prompt buyers to make low-ball offers.’

Our sentiments exactly.

Sheepishly, we will also pass on that, while we were looking around for the editorial online, we found a vigorous debate about the housing market that we should have been following all week. In a weeklong feature the Opinion folks call ‘Dust Up,’ the paper asks, ‘Do the problems in the subprime mortgage market demand any action by federal and state officials? All this week, Robert Camerota and Paul Leonard debate the high-risk real estate market.’

We’ll have more on that debate this weekend, summarizing the arguments and throwing in our own 2 cents.
