Cadillac gets Provoq-ative

Before we fling ourselves headlong into the Detroit show, let’s take a moment to look at what’s been going down slightly closer to home. At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in the sleepy little hamlet of Las Vegas, this concept car has been garnering attention.

The Cadillac Provoq luxury crossover is powered by what General Motors calls its E-flex technology, similar to that to be used in the Chevy Volt. The five-seater Provoq uses hydrogen and battery power, with each 21-inch wheel driven by an in-hub electric motor. Its roof is a solar panel powering such gadgets as a configurable LCD screen and an integrated hard drive.

And just because the headliner is made from a soy-based material, while the carpets are woven from recycled polyester and jute, Cadillac is adamant that future owners of luxury vehicles need not go without their creature comforts, as long as those comforts can be supplied in an eco-friendly way.
