The real estate celebrity gossip world woke up this morning to the sad news that New York Post columnist Braden Keil had succumbed to melanoma. He was 53 years old and left behind a wife and three children.

Keil’s ‘Gimme Shelter’ column always brought a smile, a smirk or what is known as a ‘Hey Martha’ -- something that causes the reader to put down his coffee, call his wife over and read the item aloud at the breakfast table. There is no finer compliment for a reporter than to have a ‘Hey Martha.’

The world of reporting on celebrity real estate is small, and I am grateful every day to be part of it. And between the competitiveness, there is genuine respect for the work of our peers. Keil was one of the great ones and his contributions will be sorely missed.

Our sympathies are extended to his family.
