The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the companies below have announced voluntary recalls of three children’s products: SmartLight Stair Gates, Jump n’ Jive doorway jumpers and Circo Booster Seats.

  • Dorel Juvenile Group USA of Columbus, Ind., is recalling about 31,500 Safety 1st SmartLight Stair Gates.

The gates are white metal with gray handles and have a motion sensor light that illuminates on approach. The hinges holding the gate in place can break and pose a falling hazard to children if the gate is placed at the top of the stairs.

The model number is 42111 and is printed on a sticker under the handle panel. The product was sold at mass retailers, including: Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Wal-Mart.com and other online retailers. It was sold for about $60 from January 2005 through July 2009.

Consumers should not return the gates to retailers. Consumers can call Dorel Juvenile Group at (866) 690-2540 Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. PDT. Or complete an online order form on the Dorel Juvenile Group website to obtain a free repair kit; e-mail the company at Smartlightgate@djgusa.com, or send a fax to (800) 207-8182.

  • Graco Children’s Products Inc. of Atlanta, Ga., is recalling about 2,400 Jump ‘n Jive Doorway Jumpers.

The doorway jumpers include detachable toys that are attached to the jumper straps with strips of hook and loop fabric. The strips of fabric are not permanently attached to the toys and can become detached during use, posing a choking hazard.

The company has received one report of a child removing the fabric strip and placing it in his or her mouth. No injuries have been reported, the safety agency said.

The model number, 1755544, appears on the carton UPC label and on the underside of the jumper tray. The doorway jumpers were sold at Babies R Us and other children’s retail stores and online at Amazon.com for about $55. The products sold from April through July 2009.

For more information, contact Graco at (800) 345-4109 between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. PDT Monday through Friday or visit the Graco website.

  • Retail giant Target is recalling about 43,000 Circo Booster Seats. The restraint buckle can pop open unexpectedly, allowing a child to fall from the chair.

Target has received eight reports of seat buckles opening, including three reports of bruises. Check the media release for a full list of manufacture date codes. The products were sold at Target stores nationwide for about $13 from December 2008 through June 2009.

Consumers should return the seat to the nearest Target store to receive a full refund. For additional information, contact Target at (800) 440-0680 between 5 a.m. and 4 p.m. PDT Monday through Friday, or visit the Target website.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission also announced its top 10 list of recalled children’s products as part of its “Resale Round-up” campaign. The commission wants to get recalled products out of resale stores and off the Internet.
