The Cal State Fullerton student from Villa Park is working two jobs this holiday season, one as a bartender and another as a clothing store sales associate.

He was thinking about buying an iPhone or a case for his Macbook Pro, but only if the items were on sale. The company put out a teaser ad for Black Friday earlier this week.

“Before, I would have bought it and I would have been more liberal with my spending,” he said. “But now things are tighter so I need to think about what I’m buying.’

Saud Alibrahim, 22, a student at UC Irvine, was in line at 4:30 a.m., waiting for the store to open, hoping for steep discounts on the iPad.

“I prefer Apple,” he said. “It’s the best, even if it’s more expensive.”

That was before he found out that the markdown on the tablet was only $40. Disappointed, he left, hoping for better deals on apparel at Diesel.
