More than 23 million Americans will be leaving the eggnog in the fridge on Christmas Eve and hitting the malls instead.

According to a survey released Tuesday by the International Council of Shopping Centers, 23.1 million consumers, or 15%, plan to shop on the day before Christmas.

More men (17%) plan to shop that day than women (13%). By age, people 18 to 34 years old are more likely to be shopping (21%) than those 55 and over (8%).

By region, 19% of those living in the Midwest said they were planning on doing last-minute holiday shopping on Christmas Eve, while those in the West (16%), Northeast (13%) and South (13%) were relatively less likely to shop that day.

On the day after Christmas, 19% of consumers reported they were likely to shop, with men (18%) and women (19%) about equally inclined to do so.

After-Christmas shopping is also expected to be relatively busy, according to the survey, with 47% of consumers planning to shop sometime during the workweek between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
