Maybe it’s safe to retire after all.

That’s the feeling among at least some workers these days, as the recovering U.S. economy makes them feel more secure, financially.

Among those age 60 and older, 65% of workers say they’re delaying retirement because they can’t afford it, according to a survey released Wednesday by CareerBuilder, the job-hunting website.

While not exactly comforting, that’s nonetheless an improvement from last year, when 72% said they were putting off retirement.

Though unemployment remains high and the housing market is weak, confidence has been buoyed by a recent pickup in economic data and a rise in the stock market.

Though they can’t do it immediately, most people in the 60-plus age bracket plan to retire eventually, according to the survey. About 28% expect to retire in the next two years, 27% in three to four years and 18% in five to six years. Only one in 10 doubt they’ll ever be able to retire.
