Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut, facing a tough reelection battle next year, was forced to cancel an appearance today in his state with Vice President Joe Biden because his vote may be needed in the healthcare overhaul debate.

Dodd is one of the Democratic floor managers for the bill, now in its 12th day of debate on the floor of the Senate. With 60 votes needed for almost everything, Dodd could not afford to be away from the floor.
