President Obama, on a holiday vacation in his home state of Hawaii, plans to address the public today about the actions his administration is taking in the wake of an alleged attempt to down an airliner bound for Detroit on Christmas Day.

Soon after 10 a.m. HST (noon Pacific time), the White House says, Obama will describe ‘the immediate steps the government has taken to ensure the safety of the traveling public.’’

The president also plans to detail two reviews which he has ordered: of the security watch-list, which names airline passengers who potentially could pose a threat, and of the government’s capabilities of detecting threats.
