RNC chairman Steele to critics: ‘Shut up’

It’s been a rough week for Michael S. Steele.

First the Republican National Committee chairman, flouting the taboo of never revealing the ending of a plot in a good movie review, conceded that his party would not retake the House in the political thriller which is this year’s midterm election.

And then, in virtually the same breath with FOX News’ Sean Hannity, the chairman asserted that the party’s platform is strong -- ‘honest injun.’ The phrase is a racial epithet that is offensive to Native Americans.

Steele said Republicans would see some ‘nice pick-ups in the House’ in November, but stopped short of predicting a number of wins. ‘I can’t give a number yet,’ Steele said. ‘We are just now beginning to look at races.’

When asked if his party will retake the House, Steele replied: ‘Not this year.’
