Cindy McCain, wife of 2008 Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, has posed for an ad endorsing pro-gay-marriage forces in California.

The photo shows Cindy McCain with silver duct tape across her mouth and “NOH8” written on one cheek. NOH8 is a gay rights group challenging Proposition 8, an initiative banning same-sex marriage that was passed by California voters in 2008.

John McCain’s office issued a statement saying the Arizona senator respects the views of members of his family but remains opposed to gay marriage. It says McCain believes “marriage is only defined as between one man and one woman.”
