Scott Brown calls himself ‘a different kind of Republican’

Scott Brown, the little-known Republican state senator from Massachusetts who has claimed the Senate seat of the late and long-serving Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and with that election upset deprived the Democratic Party of its super majority in the Senate, says he is ‘a different kind of Republican.’

Brown, who defeated Democratic state Atty. Gen. Martha Coakley in a special election Tuesday, says voters have responded for his call to ‘get back to basics’ and solve the problems of unemployment and terrorism that threaten the nation.

‘The first thing I’m going to do when I get to Washington is go meet everybody, Democrats and Republicans,’ Brown said in an interview on NBC News’ ‘Today’ show.
